Do FM 9 and FM 10 documents round-trip?

Jun 5, 2012 7:39 AM

Am I right to assume that FM 9 documents open in FM 10?

Would I be foolish to think that FM 10 can save documents in the FM 9 format?

Thanks for hints and help!

You can save as FM 9 doc or MIF 7 to ensure FM9 backward compatibility.

Yes, FM10 opens FM9 documents and can save back to FM9 format.

Did you mean MIF9 (or MIF10, if that's the other choice in FM10)?

Saving as MIF7 is at high risk of stripping features, and moderate risk of Unicode damage.

All I see in the Save As drop down list in my FM10 is:

    Document 10.0 (*.fm)

    View Only 10.0 (*.fm)

    Document 9.0 (*.fm)

    MIF 10.0 (*.mif)

    MIF 7.0 (*.mif)

    Text Only (*.txt)

    etc.

    No MIF 9

Thanks. Not having FM10, I had no idea.

However, I would still suggest using MIF10 rather than MIF7.

Saving as DOC9 probably strips any FM10 features. Saving as MIF10 and opening in FM9 probably does the same. Earlier Frames are supposed to be able to open later MIFs, and ignore any unrecognized tags.

Saving as MIF7, however, quite likely strips FM8, FM9 and FM10 features, as well as (I'm guessing) doing who-knows-what to any unmappable Unicode.

Hey, I didn't say it was the best idea, just that those were the options I saw ;>)
