Spiro splines in illustrator?

Jun 6, 2012 11:29 PM

Any idea how this can be done in illustrator? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OaLZuFZxdk

That is some sweet way to make a type. I dont know if any font editors can do this already.

Can illustrator CS6 do something like this?

Illy doesn't have intelligent pathing functions like that. A crying shame, too.

If you want anything close to that, check out the VectorScribe plugin.

Inkscape has them (but they deform the path too much imo). You can have a library for FontForge http://libspiro.sourceforge.net/

Spiro curves were also built into the Font Editor Ikarus (don't know if it still exists)

If you want to know more about it you should also search the terms clothoid and cornu spiral

and you could take a look at this: http://issuu.com/fontfont/docs/ff_din_round

How the Illy dev team decides to apportion their focus each cycle is beyond me.

IMO, pretty much all of VectorScribe's tools ought to be native to Illustrator by now.
