Hello!

Since yesterday I have the problem, that I can't open/save pictures as PNG any more, the option is completely gone.

When I try to open one, it says "not the right kind of document".

I don't know what I've done, I just wanted to install filters and I've put them in the Plug-ins/Filters folder.

But they didn't work so I've put them out again.

I already deleted my preferences and I am desperate, I don't know what to do anymore.

I have Photoshop CS5.

Thanks for the possbile help I could get.

    Boilerplate-text macro:

Before we waste both your time and mine exchanging potentially irrelevant information, would you be so kind to specify whether you are on a Macintosh or a Windows PC?

If you're on a Mac, I may have a suggestion or two; if on Windows, I can't help you at all.

    Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the courtesy of your reply.

You may want to check that you have the PNG plug-in installed in the Plug-ins > File Formats folder, though.

    Hello!

Could you post the content of help>system info? (remove the serial number)

Did you set an additional plug-ins folder in your preferences? Don't point to the root of the previous version's plug-ins folder, or you'll run in file formats plug-ins.

staion_two it is the multiformat plug-ins, I think, or something similar.

Looks like you are using version 12.0 of PS.  If so that is way out of date.  Should be 12.05 I believe.  So update to that version.

You said "  I tried to install the additional plugins you know see in this list."

    Which ones?

I don't see PNG listed, as in this list (for Ps extended, but still)http://forums.adobe.com/message/4365009#4365009

    I'd try to reinstall.

Also, you seem to have an old graphic card driver, that might cause other issues.

It doesn't work because you've deleted some of the Photoshop plugins, including the one that has the PNG format code in it (multiplugin).

You need to restore the plugins that shipped with Photoshop to get all the filters and supported file formats.

Well, you're missing several plugins that are installed by default.

You, or someone using your machine, have deleted or disabled those plugins.

This may not be what your problem was, but it may help others when they are troubleshooting..

I was having the same issue after they upgraded my computer to Win7. I was getting ready to send IT an email to see if they could reinstall when I thought what about running as administrator... So when I right clicked on Photoshop in my startup menu and click on Run as Administrator, I now have Save As Web and Device and can now save to other file formats. YAY! And if you want it to always run as administrator - Right click the icon, Properties, Compatibility and click the box next to Run this Program as Administrator.
