I've been paying for every upgade for PhotoShop since version 2,5 on a Mac SE 30. Now the most essential tool, the crop tool, is totally broken. Is anyone at Adobe today still a photographer or designer? How do I make you see the error of your ways? Please contact me.
If you don't like it, you can change it...see the little Gear thingie? Select the Use Classic Mode...and in point of fact, the Photoshop engineers are very into photography which is one reason the Crop tool in CS6 was made more like the crop tool in Lightroom because for the purpose of cropping images, the CS6 crop tool is much better. Yes, it's different and takes getting used to (not so much of you also use Lightroom). But for those who don't like it, use the old fuddie mode, er, Clasic Mode.
P.S. exactly why do you think they would want to contact you? Are you some sort of expert? I don't think so...your user name is your email address which is pretty stooopid because it exposes your address to spammers. Just sayin' ya might want to get a clue–the Internet is a rough place these days.
rpcb, I guess it is inherently built into people to be resistant to change. I know that I had a bit of a paddy with the new Crop tool, but having got used to it, I have to say it is a major improvement over the old Crop tool. Unfortunately, the excellent Lynda.com New Features title by Deke McClelland is no longer viewable without a subscription, but there are a host of tutorials out there. The first one in this list misses out the Straighten feature, and the fact that you can bring up the missing Resolution options by hitting the 'r' after you start dragging any of the handles.
Thank you very much, Trevor. The undocumented keyboard command is very useful and reduces some extra steps in the workflow imposed by the new tool. One additional problem I was having, which may be unique to my installation: the crop does not respond to "enter" or "return" from the keyboard. I have to use the the little check box to close the crop. Took me a while to figure this out, as I don't use Lightroom. And I suppose you're right about resistance to change. In the almost 20 years I've been using PhotoShop, I've been very pleased with the positive changes each new version provided. Suppose I just have to take the bad with the good.
Well there is a natural resistance to change, but taking away a productivity feature - like the resolution box - was a not so bright move. I do like the new crop features, but going to the classic mode does not bring this back. And the crop tools are not consistent, the Perspective Crop does have the resolution box - go figure why they did this - so yes with these two issue, there is a resistance to change.

The resolution box is not missing tom the new PS6 crop tool. It moved to the dropbox on the left. Down near the bottom, you will find the option for Size and Resolution. Allows presets too, which I like. Nice time-saver when doing a series of repetitive crops.
However, the new crop tool has a bug that has been overwhelming to a rushed job. In some circumstances it blows the image into multi-colored stripes on black. Prints this way, too. You won't see it in the image preview, just when using certain other programs (like EFI eSpress proofer). Going back to Classic as a result. Absolutely KILLs a hard day trying to meet a publication deadline.
Hi Steve,
The video card is ATI Radeon HD 4870 with two monitors. See About This Mac details below. No, I do not see the corruption in Photoshop. Nor does it show up at actual pixels.
Thanks for your prompt reply. It means a lot.
