Findin that Lightroom 4 and 4.1 are not importing video/movie files. Without exception every attempt made has resulted in an error.
In many cases just the first frame gets imported and converted to a low grade jpg image.
The same files import cleanly in to Aperture 3.x without difficulty.
Software glitch? Or my brain cramp?
i too have a mpg file hat will not import in 4.1 RC.
i think it should import fine?!

I also have issues with video files that imported fine into LR3.6 I upgraded the catalog to LR4.1RC and many of the videos do not show preview, and will not play in LR. Some of the vdeos taken with the same camera are fine. The videos play fine in other software. Also when LR is trying to generate previews for these, it grinds to a halt and becomes super slow to do anything.

Yeah, Ive had the same problem. It looked as, though it had imported - it certainly took enought time - but I get an error message at the end. Unfortunately, I didn't catch the error message the first time and lost 20 gigs of video of a Bedouin wedding ceremony... Adobe, is there any chance the video files uploaded in some virtual part of my machine and can be recovered??? Please! Ive already tried magical incantations.
Just an update folks. I have tried a fresh video file from smart phone, camcorder, converted to different formats. No joy. It would seem that Adobe dosen't have the video file process in Lightroom developed to a stable and useable point.
Even with the RC2 of version 4 there was no solution. My search of the Adobe support site has been fruitless on this subject.
Since I work on a Mac will probably go back to Aperture as my primary editor and library manager and use Lightroom as an external editor, obviously for still images only. Don't have a clue what the Window folks will do.
Tired of trying work arounds for what could have been a clean transition to "all things Adobe." Thanks to the folks that offered possible solutions. RH
The video import issue is clearly a problem. I'm getting a failure trying to import the MPG file from lesson 6 in Adobe's own Lightroom 4 classroom in a book package.
If Lightroom is having an issue and won't even import its own tutorial video's, Adobe need to have a close look at this functionality.
