6.6 not enough memory

I am using 6.6 on Win XP. I have converted and saved 12 tiff images from 12  Canon raw 1DS Mk 2 files.

I cannot open in photoshop or convert any more images in camera raw without shutting down the PC completely and starting again.

 

Is camera raw using all my memory or is there a memory hole? (whatever that is)

 

I have 4gb of memory.
