Spacing objects equally.

Jun 11, 2012 2:16 PM

Here's one I've always just crutched by with doing manually - you have X amount objects and want to distribute them equally within a set space. See below:

justdont.PNG

ON TOP: is "Optical" method kerned font characters, outlined and ungrouped. Ready to be spaced.

ON BOTTOM: is the result of selecting all 5 characters (including apostrophe), setting the D as the anchor object, and trying one of the Horizintal Distribute Buttons in the toolbar. No go.

(Only critical at the moment because the word "DON'T" is to be printed 26" wide and I want precision.)

Yes I can manually calculate how much space should be between each char based on total length of space minus width sum of all chars. Problem is, I'm using a computer. Computer, you do it!

What about the distribute spacing buttons rather than the distribute objects?

Note: Distribute Spacing is not on the Control bar.

    No. It does not.

Select all the shapes, hit the button. If you don't input a value, the app calculates the proper amount for you.

    Glad to help Matthias.

To continue a bit.. if you try and use Distribute Spacing and are noticing the spacing is just wrong... check the Align Panel.. if there's a value there, set it to 0 and retry.
