I am running Windows 7 Home Preminum on an HP 17 Envy Laptop. Windows, drivers and CS5 are up to date.
Encore stops responding on start up, Windows search for a solution and closes Encore. All other CS5 Pro programs function normally.
I have tried all solutions offered on forums under the search "Adobe encore has stopped working on startup" including repairing Encore and re-installing Encore. This seems to be a common problem andthat no one has solution to fix it. I even tried installing the Roxio update that was suggested.
Apparenty this problem started with CS4 and has continued to CS6.
We are on a four month motor home trip and I need Encode for the documentry that I am working on. Encore did work for a while.
Is not Adobe interested in solving this recurring problem?
I am willing to let Adobe remotely log into my computer if it would help resolve this problem.
I can be contacted via email at jimraija@earthlink.net.

This is a user to user forum, not Adobe support... click the Contact Adobe link at the bottom for Adobe support
I have never had a problem with Encore on my desktop computer, so really have not much else to offer
As well as the below, right click the Encore icon and select Run as Administrator, which is NOT the same thing as running the computer with the Administrator account, and which fixes several "odd" problems... To create a two layer DVD (or a BluRay?), you MUST have Encore set to use the Run as Administrator option

John,
Thanks for the quick reply. I have tried Adobe support and so far no response from them. I also tried running as administrator and running from the special administrator account. Encore still stops responding on startup. Adobe really has a problem with Encore and don’t seem to want to address it.

>Adobe really has a problem with Encore
Well... no... some people have problems, but if there was a GENERAL problem there would be hundred/thousands of messages like yours... and there are not
As for laptops... some more reading... may not apply to you, but free to read

John,
I just finished trying everything in the links that you provided. The Encore stops responding on startup problem still exists.
Thanks for trying.

In case you have not come across these links:
Troubleshoot damaged projects in Encore on Windows
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406006.html
Troubleshoot system errors and freezes | Adobe software on Windows
Thanks Stan.
Troubleshoot damage projects does not apply as Encode stops responding, randomly during the startup phase, so I never even get to the project dialog to choose an existing project or a new project.
The “Encode has stopped responding message, Windows is looking for a solution, Windows is closing the program” messages occur no matter how I start Encore, i.e. Run as Administrator, run from hidden Administrator, or as a link from Pr.
I also tried the suggestions in the “Troubleshoot system errors and freezes” link. Encore still stops responding on startup.

I have since communicated with many people that are having this same problem. It occurs on different manfacturer platforms and both on desktops and laptops. Many have contacted Adobe support who seems unwilling and uninterested in taking ownership and providing a fix. As a retired professional coder and hardware systems engineer from a leader computer manufacturer, I find this to be torally unacceptable by a company such as Adobe. The price of the CS product demands much better support. There should at the very least be a provision for Encore and the CS programs to at least provide an error dialog as to why the program cannot complete the initalizing process.
