Hi,
I'm using Dreamweaver 5.5 on a Mac. When I "save as" my template page ends up all out of order, for instance, the horizontal menu ends up vertical which distorts the whole page. This only happens in Dreamweaver for the Mac. I am using a template by Project Seven Developers and it works fine on a PC. Does anyone use these templates or have problems "saving as" another file?
Desperately need help!
Thanks
Marilyn
Hi,
Yes thanks for your help. Both these images are in edit view the first one was created from the template the second was the "save as" copy.
See how the top nav is all shifted to the right and the pictures wrapped. All I did was save as touched nothing else. I tried it in Dreamweaver, 4, 5, 5.5, and last night I downloaded a trial of 6. Now version 6 did not wrap the images this way but the navigation on top was the same.
Any help you can provide I would surely appreciate!
Thanks
Marilyn
One more thing, I emailed Project Seven and Al told me to follow these instructions, I just got his email:
When you open the interface to edit a particular structure, it will be highlighted in dark blue. If your structure has multiple rows, as you highlight a row in the CCM interface the actual row on your page will also highlight.
If you delete or move a row in the CCM interface, the row highlighting will not reflect this until you click OK and then reopen the interface.
Saving Copies of Pages Causes Loss Styling
If you save a copy of a page that contains a CCM structure, using File > Save As, the CCM structure on the new page will look unstyled. This is because of Dreamweaver’s relatively poor native CSS support (up to version CS5.5). To enable the CCM Design Time style sheet that fixes Dreamweaver Design View, select one of your CCM structures on that page and open the interface, as if you were going to edit it. Simply click OK and Dreamweaver’s Design View workarounds will kick in.
Not sure I understand this because I really don't care about the design view it's the edit view that I have to work in and this makes it almost impossible to work in the page.
thanks

THis is a nice illustration of the excellent support provided by PVII for their products.
When you refer to "edit view" aren't you just talking about "Design view"? DW has two modes of displaying a page for editing: Design view and Code view. There is no "edit view".
Give Al's suggestion a try.
Hi,
Yes I love PVII they have great products and excellent support!
So maybe the different views are the problems on the Mac. For instance when I select design view I can't make any edits to the page. I just referred to edit view because I can edit! lol So let me take a step back after saving as a page when DW displays the page for editing in code view, the second image I sent is what it looks like. And it's very difficult to work in, however I should be able to just save as and rename a page after I've added my own navigation and I'm using PVII's Magic Menu below the images, not sure if the shots I sent show them or not. So do you think Al's instructions will take care of it? And you have never run into this problem before? This is the first template of PVII that I've had this problem with and like I said it is only on the Mac.
Just try following Al's suggested fix.
Actually, DW has three display modes: Live view (can't edit DESIGN here but can edit code), Design view (can edit design here, but not code), and Code view (can edit code here, but not design). So - I'm still not clear on which it is that you are calling "edit view"....
after saving as a page when DW displays the page for editing in code view the second image I sent is what it looks like.
But the second image is only of Design view.
Oh good grief, I'm not either now! I will have my partner help with this as you can tell I'm not even an intermediate user of Dreamweaver. I usually have a split view of code and design and that's all I know! When I'm in that view I can edit. I will follow the instructions and see what happens. If that corrects the problem, I'll let you know in case other people have the same issue. Thanks for your help.
Here's how you know (from a Mac screen - largely the same on a PC)....
Glad it worked. I knew it would ![]()
If we designed products based on Dreamweaver's rendering capabilities,
we would be doing pretty primitive stuff - much like what Adobe does for
its starter pages and such ![]()
Column Composer Magic uses what's called a Design Time style sheet,
which is a Dreamweaver feature that allows a style sheet to be used just
by Design View. It is not used on the web by browsers. We use this style
sheet to dumb down our CSS to Dreamweaver's rendering capabilities.
When you do a File - Save As, the connection between the original page
and the DT style sheet, which is carried in an Adobe Notes file, is not
rolled over to the new file. We have no way to prevent this. What we can
do, as covered in our user guide, is to allow you to run our interface
on your new page. When you do so, a new connection is made between the
DT style sheet and your page.
We are looking into different ways to deal with this, while continuing
to hope Adobe finally modernizes Dreamweaver's Design View each year.
It's only been about 12 years, so we are still hopeful.
Seriously, in most other respects beyond Design View, Dreamweaver has
advanced very well. Unfortunately, a lot of designers associate
Dreamweaver's Design View with their actual design and wind up severely
limiting themselves.
