Why can't I "save as" a page in Dreamweaver without the layout staying in place?

Jun 12, 2012 6:52 PM

Hi,

I'm using Dreamweaver 5.5 on a Mac. When I "save as" my template page ends up all out of order, for instance, the horizontal menu ends up vertical which distorts the whole page. This only happens in Dreamweaver for the Mac. I am using a template by Project Seven Developers and it works fine on a PC. Does anyone use these templates or have problems "saving as" another file?

Desperately need help!

Thanks

Marilyn

I use PVII stuff all the time, and no, I don't have any problems with Save As.  Can we see a) a screen shot of the before and the after appearance, and b) the code on the page?

THis is a nice illustration of the excellent support provided by PVII for their products.

When you refer to "edit view" aren't you just talking about "Design view"?  DW has two modes of displaying a page for editing: Design view and Code view.  There is no "edit view".

    Give Al's suggestion a try.

Just try following Al's suggested fix.

Actually, DW has three display modes: Live view (can't edit DESIGN here but can edit code), Design view (can edit design here, but not code), and Code view (can edit code here, but not design).  So - I'm still not clear on which it is that you are calling "edit view"....

after saving as a page when DW displays the page for editing in code view the second image I sent is what it looks like.

But the second image is only of Design view.

Here's how you know (from a Mac screen - largely the same on a PC)....

OK - so try the PVII suggestion and see what happens.

Glad it worked. I knew it would

If we designed products based on Dreamweaver's rendering capabilities,

we would be doing pretty primitive stuff - much like what Adobe does for

    its starter pages and such

Column Composer Magic uses what's called a Design Time style sheet,

which is a Dreamweaver feature that allows a style sheet to be used just

by Design View. It is not used on the web by browsers. We use this style

sheet to dumb down our CSS to Dreamweaver's rendering capabilities.

When you do a File - Save As, the connection between the original page

and the DT style sheet, which is carried in an Adobe Notes file, is not

rolled over to the new file. We have no way to prevent this. What we can

do, as covered in our user guide, is to allow you to run our interface

on your new page. When you do so, a new connection is made between the

DT style sheet and your page.

We are looking into different ways to deal with this, while continuing

to hope Adobe finally modernizes Dreamweaver's Design View each year.

It's only been about 12 years, so we are still hopeful.

Seriously, in most other respects beyond Design View, Dreamweaver has

advanced very well. Unfortunately, a lot of designers associate

Dreamweaver's Design View with their actual design and wind up severely

    limiting themselves.
