Shockwave download problem

When I try to download Shockwave player, I.E. closes the webpage and goes to a white screen saying:

"A malfunctioning or malicious add-on has caused Internet Explorer to close this webpage."

It then gives me the option of going back to Adobe, going to my homepage, or "More info".  That states:

"Windows Data Execution Prevention detected an add-on trying to use system memory incorrectly. This can be caused by a malfunction or a malicious add-on."

 

OS is XP Pro w/SP3 w/ 1gb RAM and I.E. 8.0.6001.18702IC

 

Any ideas what is going wrong?  Any suggestions?
