Adding 3D text to a photo

Hey Guys,

I have fooling around with photoshop trying to make some cool artwork for my band and i have this idea of putting 3d text in a photo. I've searched around a bit and found several ways of creating 3d text, but that isn't the biggest issue right now. I'm trying to add the text coming from out of a shadow in the photo. So i guess my question is what is the best 3d text and how would i go about making 3d text start under a shadow and go into the light of a photo?

Are you using Elements or Creative Suite?

There are separate forums for mac and windows users and you will find better advice over there as CS5 and CS6 (Extended) are the programs with 3d capabilities.

In Elements you can only apply effects to text.
