A little background.
PSE 8
Windows 7
64 bit
New computer.
PSE 8 worked fine on old computer.
A short time after installing PSE 8 on the new computer, photo email stopped working with a message that an email connection coould not complete.
A few days ago, I put a SDHC card in the slot on the computer and tried to open the files(photos). The blue screen appeared and the computer shut down.
The same thing happend after I opened organizer. When I try to open the editor, I get a blue screen and a shutdown.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program PSE 8.
If I open a photo in organizer and then close it, the bottom 1/3 of the photo is blank. As in missing. Gone.
I've spent a lot of time with Dell support who changed the default program to Windows Live. That will open the file with out a blue screen, but I still cannot open the PSE 8 editor without it shutting down.
Dell support also uninstalled all the drivers and reinstalled them.
I don't know enough about computer language to start renaming, deleting, or adding files. If you have any suggestions, I'll need them in simple language.
Thanks....

The editor saved prefs often get corrupted. You may need to rebuild the editor preferences to resolve any conflicts. Hold down the Ctrl+Shift+Alt keys and simultaneously click on the Edit button on the welcome screen.
Release the three keys and look behind the welcome screen by closing it. Or hold down the keys whilst double clicking on PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe You should see a pop up box with the words: Delete Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File? Click on Yes Then wait whilst Elements rebuilds the preferences.
Thanks for the suggestions. I did hold down the CtrlShiftAlt keys (all at the same time) and then clicked on the Edit button in the welcome screen. I immediately got a blue screen and the computer shut down.
I'm assuming that PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe is or should be under computer > OS (C:) > Program Files (x86). I didn't find it there. Or anywhere else.
I find this under OS(C:) > Program Files (x86) > Adobe > Elements Organizer 8.0 >
Photoshop Elements 8.0
Photoshop Elements File Agent
Photoshop Organizer
Am I looking in the wrong place?

What "blue screen" are you referring to?
If it's a system crash, you've got far more severe problems than the PSE Editor not starting. Run a full system virus scan using a good anti-virus program. Consider the possibility of needing to completely reformat your drive and re-installing the OS. Also you might have a defective piece of hardware, in which case Dell will have to replace it (or the entire computer).

Ken. The only blue screen I know about is the bright blue that comes on for a few seconds, 5-8, says the memory files are being dumped, and then the computer shuts down. I have McAffee and it runs all the time. I'll take your suggestion and run a full scan. Thanks for the response....

Good news and bad news. When I try to open the editor within organizer by way of the fix button, the computer no longer goes to a blue screen and crashes. Bad news is the editor still will not open.
The McAfee full scan showed zero problems.
After uninstall and install the computer did crash, but then I went to edit in the organizer, preferences, auto anyalyse and unchecked all the boxes. After that is when the computer no longer crashed.
Does this now make other suggestions possible?

Make a desktop shortcut to go directly to the Editor Right click anywhere on the desktop and select New à Shortcut Then click the browse button and navigate to: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe" (it’s the file arrowed on my screenshot) Then click Next; then click Finish
Not any progress. Spent just less than an unpleasant half hour on a chat with Adobe. Not only no help, but a waste of time.
While looking in the control panel, I came across the default programs choices. One link is Make a File Type Always Open A Specific Program. It appears that all of the extensions that are associated with Photoshop go to open Photoshop Elements Editor. Could I be missing something here?
After installing PSE yesterday, the program is now in my start up and I can go directly to the Organizer. Within Organizer, when I click on Fix and then edit, I get the horizontal bar saying the Editor workspace is loading. After a very short time it stops, and the Organizer minimizes. No crash, just no reaction. Does that inspire any suggestions?
