Can BC be used for a community website?

Jun 14, 2012 12:52 PM

I have not built a website with BC before. A potential client needs a new website for a community sports club. The requirements are:

  • Coaches can update part of the website for their team
  • Photo galleries
  • Staff needs email accounts and a community calendar

Is this something BC is capable of? If not, any other recommendations? I like Business Catalyst because it is SAAS based rather than something like Joomla or Drupal.

    Hi,

On top of my head perhaps Web Apps (can allow front-end users to edit and can post images) and some custom implementation for a community calendar.

More details on Web Apps below.

I'll leave this thread open for additional suggestions from the community.

    Kind regards,

    -Sidney

Users can create web app items and only edit those items that they've created. There's no way to edit other parts of the site through a secure zone. They'd need an Admin access for everything else.

Yes. Anyone with admin access is considered a user. If you allow them to create and edit web app items, that is done through the secure zone membership and in that case they would not be considered an admin user, so there would be no additional cost in that case.

So, you create a secure zone registration form, which will give each coach access to the secure zone. They then log in to that secure zone and there they'll find the web app item creation form and possibly also links to update they profile and a list of they existing items.

They will then fill in the form and create a web app item, which you can call a team page.

You can then have a list view for that web app where people can browse teams.

    Cheers,
