I want to choose an file extension in the "Save as" Dialog. If i choose Jpeg, Photoshop takes EPS and so on. Systemupdate and reinstall PS does not help.

My System: Mac OS X 10.6.8

    Boilerplate-text:

Are Photoshop and OS fully updated?

As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by keeping command-alt-shift pressed on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.

System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.

    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/onyx.html

Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)

If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of those may be responsible for the problem.

You probably set the Additional Plugins Folder preference and pointed it to an older version of Photoshop by mistake -- loading duplicated plugins, which cause this problem on MacOS.

Copying plugins from an older version: BAD idea.

I am having the same problem. Glad you have found a cure. Tried the shift-opt-command at startup but no apparent results. Did you re-install from the cloud?

    Thanks for the information.

Read what Chris Cox wrote carefully.

You have copied plug-ins provided by Adobe with a previous version of Photoshop into the plug-ins folder for the new version.

    Undo that.

Reinstallation does NOT wipe out copied plug-ins, so it will not help.

Only step 4 was necessary -- because it reset the "additional plugins folder" preference that you mistakenly pointed to an older version of Photoshop.

You had duplicated the plugins from a previous version somewhere, because the duplicated file format plugins are what causes the save dialog menu to get out of sync.
