Illustrator CS6 locks up when I choose File - New...

I have Illustrator CS6 on a Mac OSX 10.7.4. Every time I choose File - New... or press 'cmd n' it locks up and I get the dreaded spinning ball cursor. Any way to fix this?

Opening a file by double clicking on an ai file in finder is fine.

You have a permissions problem. To use File>New AI has to be able to access the New Document Profiles folder in your Users>yourname>Library>Application Support>Adobe Illustrator CSX>en_US. For some reason Apple decided to hide the Library folder in 10.7.X but there's something wrong with the permissions with that folder.

Have you tried running applications/utilities/disk utility to repair all your permissions.

Make sure you have a printer chosen. Also try deleting and rechoosing your printer, incase the .ppd is coprrupt. This has actually solved this problem for me and a few other more than once in the past.

You did a Get Info on that folder and the Read/Write access is set to allow everyone access? Did you also check the parent folder (en_US) for the same access? Try going back up the line and allowing everyone access to the files and apply the same to all the enclosed files like this

If you do a reinstall, be sure to use the uninstaller for the version of AI that you have and be sure to check the box that says to remove the Preferences files.
