Graphic Styles, Multiple Strokes

I make a graphic style with more than one stroke. I choose the brush tool. I click the graphic style. I draw a line. only one of the strokes is applied to the path. I have to select the path again, and then click the graphic style for it to apply.

"New art has basic appearance" is unchecked.
It's time consuming and frustrating. And it takes the punch out of one of the better additions to the program.

    well, in case it wasn't obvious, the question is, how do I make new paths have both strokes to begin with, so I don't have to estimate what my drawing will look like.
    Also AI CS 5.

    Well to be honest this is going to sound sarcastic but it is not intended. You make three lines the way you want it to apply to new shapes. the you select and drg it ot he brush panel and eselct to make it an pattern brush you have to read the help files in order to understand how to make a pattern brush.

    Don't choose the Brush Tool. Use the Pencil Tool.

    I am a student learning the cs6 package for design school. I recently got a subscription to macprovideo.com (great decision), and recalled a video that dealt with graphic styles. I checked it out, and it happens to be one of the free ones! check it out it may help.

    is there a way to get the pencil tool to accept pressure sensitivity input?

    that was useless. what I want to do is use multiple bristle brush, or caligraphic strokes with the brush tool, because I'm trying to emulate an actual paint brush, and the bristle brushes don't do it well enough with my wacom tablet (which admittedly, is a consumer level product).

    You can do it layer based by assigning the appearance to the layer. If you already have the style, first click the dot representing the target, next to layer's name in the layer's panel and then click the style in the style panel. All brush strokes you make on this layer will appear with the same style. However if the brush paths overlap each other the strokes will not. You can achieve the overlap by using another layer with the same style.
