When using an "Edit" Tool i.e. "Crop" I am not finding how to get back to the pointer when finished with the Crop Tool. Any suggestion?
One of the tools is always active. If you have finished with the crop tool and want to use the brush tool next, you need to select the brush tool in the tool box. I don't understand your reference to a pointer, however.

prior to selecting the first tool to be used, one has a pointer on the
screen to select a tool.

In Edfitor, go to Edit>Preferences>Display and Cursors
Under Painting cursors, check Normal brush Tip
Under Other Cursors, check Standard
