CS5 error message - file-format module interface

Jun 17, 2012 11:34 AM

Tags: #cs5 #error

First post - sorry if it's not in the best place.  CS5 has suddenly fallen over with the following error message when trying to open a raw file (.CR2 / 5DII), which it could open previously:

"Could not complete request because of a problem with the file-format module interface".

Googling has not produced much at all on this topic, and none of it helpful.

Any thoughts on this please?

Since it just stopped working I would reset the preferences.  Start PS and immediately hold down Ctrl + Alt + Sift on Windows.  You should get a reset window if fast enough to beat splash screen.

On Mac it is Cmd, options, shift.

    Hello!

I would try to update/reinstall camera raw, or replace it with the latest compatible version (6.7)

    What list? About plug-ins?

You can check and or delete the acr file here  Program Files/COMMON Files/Adobe/Plug-ins/CSx/File Formats    which gives you Camera Raw.8bi

Thanks for your reply.  If I click on PS icon, then immediately hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift, PS does not open at all!

PS should not open, you should get a reset window.  If it does nothing and you are on a Windows machine this may indicate more of a problem than you think.

A reinstall will not affect the preference file.  It should say "delete photoshop settings?"  say yes.

With 2 gigs of ram you are on the ragged edge.

    Hello!

If you did delete the prefs, and it does not fix anything, the reinstall is the next troubleshooting step.

You can also do a system-wide search for Camera Raw.8bi and see if you find several ones.
