Accidentally overwrote Adobe Brushes

Jun 17, 2012 1:41 PM

I accidentally saved some new brushes I created over top of the Special Effects brushes that came with Adobe Photoshop Elements. I tried resetting the brushes...but that did not bring back the original Adobe brushes. Is there somewhere I can re-download the original brushes?

    Operating system?

    PSE version?

You can try rebuilding the Media database (in Windows):

Delete these two files -- they're in the hidden "\ProgramData" directory, so you'll need to temporarily change your folder options to show hidden files.

    "C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\9.0\ThumbDatabase.db3"

    "C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\9.0\Locale\en_us\MediaDatabase.db3"

Start PSE, and wait while it automatically rebuilds those database files.

You mean you saved over the default set of Special Effects brushes?

You saved a set by the same name and when the dialog came up saying this set all ready exists, do want to save over them you did?

What operating system and version of elements?

Do you have another version of elements installed?

You tried switching to a different brush set and then switching back?

    Are these the brushes?

I don't think resetting the media database is going to affect the brushes unless your talking about the special effects

under the the smart or detail smart brush tool.

If you have a friend who has Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, perhaps you can copy this brush file to CD or thumb drive, then install it in the Preset>brushes folder on your machine.

Yeah, you've lost them.  Nothing to do but uninstall PSE and re-install.
