Browser labs will not render any of the websites I have hosted on my server but has no issues render

Jun 17, 2012 6:49 PM

I just decided to test out browser labs to see if it's something I want to use when developing websites.

Obviously the first sites I would run as a test are my sites that I already know how they render across multiple machines. What is odd is that they will not render at all! I get an error and am told to retry after over 5 minutes of attempting to process.

I then went on to try other websites that I have built and the same thing. Then I decided to go with the tried and true google.com and it rendered just fine!! Then I went back and tried my domains and again, nothing! So i tried facebook.com and it worked!!

I tested all of the domains i could think of that exist on my specific server account and none of them will work! It's very odd.

Any thoughts?

There are a couple things I can think of that might be going wrong...

    1. When you give the URL to BrowserLab, it will make multiple simultaneous requests for the page from the web server. We've seen at least one situation in the past where those multiple requests would overwhelm the server and would not or could not respond. Try doing a test where you have only a single browser in your browser set.

    2. When some web servers get multiple simultaneous requests coming from a single address, they will interpret it as an attack and refuse to respond. And may log that address and permanently refuse to respond to it. Some additional details are here: http://blogs.adobe.com/browserlab/2011/04/14/browserlabs-egress-ip-add resses/

Are the URLs you tried public and can you post them so we can try them out ourselves?
