Why is Adobe Illustrator CS 6 so slow when I want save a document with many and great images. Very much slower than Freehand. What do I wrong? Are my settings not good?
Moved to Illustrator
I work with Freehand since 20 years or more. I make all my work with FH on my Mac G4 (12 years old), brochures, flyers, all publicity and also with great images. Never I had a problem with speed, also when I save the file. Now, I'am busy to migrate to Illustrator and I have now the Master Collection and the Creative Cloud abonnement on my PC - Windows 7 - 16 GB Ram etc,... http://globalsp.ts.fujitsu.com/dmsp/Publications/public/ds-CELSIUS-W48 0.pdf . With Photoshop CS6, even with InDesign CS6 on the same PC, no problems with speed, very, very great! With Illustrator when I use different great images in a test-file, saving the file take 10 à 20 seconds!! The speed is great when I work on the file, only saving the file is a great poblem, to long in my view. I want upload the file with the images, but where can I do this on this Forum? Thanks from John Willems - Belgium Eu.
I am not sure about the procedure of exchanging files here on Adobe Forum. You may share the files with me (if you have no objection in sharing the content with me) by sending mail to my personal mail id UTPALYOGI@GMAIL.COM.
Anyone or everyone can download the file with the longtime saving problems via WeTransfer:

Saving this simple document in AI takes about 10 to 15 seconds and longer with more photos.
Saving this document in Freehand FH9 takes about 0,001 seconds even with more photos.
On the same PC!
I want migrate from Freehand tot Illustrator CS6, but not with such a slow saving proces!
I hope my settigs are wrong. I want work in Illustrator with many photo's also even with illustrations, it's a very and great program, but on this moment to slow.
I hope that anyone can help.

Thanks for posting the file. I also observed that file takes some time to save but in my opinion that was genuine as it has embedded Image that is also with 300 PPI. I just exported the embedded image separately and linked it in Illustrator file in place of embedded content and saved the Illustrator document, it was pretty quick. You may even export the image with less resolution to speed up the save operation.
As per my learning and education with Illustrator, the basic difference between link and embedding impacts utlimate saved output in size and save time, hence I do not see any issue as your file save takes time because of high resolution and embedded content.
I do not have any idea about FH, hence unable to say if it also has concept of link/embedded content or not and whether it honors high resolution of image in it or not. Hope this information helps.
