What happens if I print the same file to different rips with different Adobe Print Engines?
On behalf of Adobe's print group, let me expand on Steve's response.
The differences in output between different versions of the Adobe PDF Print Engine code provided by Adobe to its OEM partners should be neglible given everything else being equal. Yes, anomalies are fixed in newer versions or dot releases. But for the most part, the updated versions address support for features such as VDP support via PDF/VT, very high speed digital print devices (hundreds of pages per minute), and just as importantly, new features that permit our OEM partners to add some of their own enhancements.
Visual differences that you see from one version to another of a particular RIP based on the Adobe PDF Print Engine are most often OEM vendor-specific product differentiation features, not likely direct features of the underlying Adobe technologies.
