Annoying crosshair border in CS6

Jun 18, 2012 6:53 AM

Just seeing CS6 for the first time and trying to warm up to it. There were several annoyances I have been able to revert back to normal, but  this one thing I can't seem to make go away.

The marquee crosshair used to be displayed with 1 pixel lines, now it has a 1px border around the entire crosshair when it is over a dark color. Is there a way to get rid of that border? It just feels a little cumbersome, and sort of annoys me. I would rather it not be there.

Thanks!

I know of no way to change that cursor.

While we're splitting marquee pixels, do you find the marquee is drawn perfectly in line with the central black portion of the crosshair both vertically and horizontally?  I don't...

Thanks for that info.  The (mis)alignment is likely video driver-specific.

We can only assume Adobe feels the additional contrast on the cursor will help people find it on a busy screen.

Noel, I see a tiny misalignment of the marquee cursor in relation to the dashed line only at magnifications greater than 100% view, and then only at fractional movements of the cross hair cursor, meaning that the misalignment disappears when you move the cursor by the smallest possible increments.

Photoshop 13.0 Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).

Thanks for that info, station_two...  I guess I thought I was at 100% zoom with the above image but in fact I was not, and of course the marquee snaps to pixel edges!

I do actually see perfect alignment with the center of the cursor crosshair at 100% zoom.

I feel more than a little stupid for being caught by that.  I'm very sorry for the noise!

There's always the details tab in camera raw for that

I think this was done to make cusor more visible in the past some times they were very hard or imposible to see when gray like using the pen tool on a 50% gray area to draw a path. I think you will see that all the time now except on a white background. Now cursors will always contrast on what ever they are over for the contrast with thenselves.

Ah, so glad you already posted this.  I couldn't find how to change the cursor back to do the plain black/invert style.  This is driving me crazy, and I feel it is limiting my agility when selecting pixel perfect areas at 100% - I used to be so quick & accurate.  Now I'm slow and encumbered.  It's likely run through the video driver now, which is why it no longer inverts the crosshair color...

What do we do when something like this comes up?  Submit it as a bug?
