Bridge CS6, USB 3.0, D800 and .jpg

Hello,

Bridge CS6 always stops importing the files from my D800 via USB 3.0 after exactly 6 jpg files are transfered. In mixed nef+jpg as well as in jpg only mode.

No matter if CF only or SD only or both cards are used.

No problem with .nef only.

To change the target directory to another SSD or HD makes no difference.

But at the same USB 3.0 ports (I tried them all), no problem whatsoever to do the transfer via Windows Explorer.

System is a brand new W7Ultimate64 on an IvyBridge Z77 platform.

Thanks for any helfpul suggestion,

/Rikkou,

there is no problem, except the slooooow speed, with Bridge CS6, if the D800 is connected via any USB 2.0 port.

Are you downloading from the camera or a card reader?  A USB card reader is much more reliable.  Built in card reader less so.

Can you try it with a USB card reader?  Downloading directly from camera is  prone to errors.

Lots of users with D800 and have had no problems reported with download.

Since a new computer always a possibility it something with the USB3 port.

Do you have CS5 Bridge you can test your current download method to see if it works OK with it?  That would determine if it is set up or CS6.

directly from the Cam. And, as I wrote, there are no issues whatsoever if USB2.0 is used. Or USB3.0 and the Wndows Explorer.

    Only with Bridge and USB3.0.

Thus, logic says it must be an issue with Bridge.

...and if other people with a D800 are having no problem with Bridge, then logic says it's an issue with your system

Have you tried any of the suggestions offered?  If so what were the results?

    Rikkou:

I have just finished a shoot of around 200 images using my D800. I normally shoot RAW only, but the client wanted some images immediately so I shot NEF, jpg and RAW+jpg. Normally I just use a card reader, but this morning hooked up my D800 to a USB 3 port, fired up Bridge and imported directly from the camera. All the images came across just fine; and have to say very impressed with the transfer speed. The USB 3 directly from the camera is faster than my old USB 2 card reader. So time to upgrade my card reader   I have limited desk space so a card reader is better than having the camera on my desk.

My system is virtually a brand new i7 ASUS CM6870. One of the first things I did was to check with the vendor for Bios updates, and lo and behold there were quite a few, including chip set updates. Might be a good idea to see if there are any bios uodates for your system

Obviously you are seeing a problem, but given it works fine for me - not much comfort for you, but apart from checking for any USB/Chipset updates cannot think of anything else.  There was a problem a while back, which I think was resolved, and that was imports would not work if there were video files in the import stream, but as I said that was resolved.

    Cheers

    Mike

    Hello Curt,

yes, I tried a card reader, of course it worked.

But this is not the point, apparently I couldn't make myself clear, sorry for that. Let me try again.

I don't want to use a card reader.

That is the point.  Over the years there have been many instances where downloading files directly from the camera introduces errors.

It is you choice to download with camera, you just have to accept it is not as clean an option (in general) as a card reader.

It would appear to me it is not Bridge but the USB3 software on your computer, or just camera error in data transfer.

I came to this thread after "googling" D800 USB3 transfer. What brought me to do that is that I experience exactly the same problem:

    - Nikon D800e camera

    - USB3 connection to a USB3 port

    - Battery fully charged

    - The one difference is that I don't use bridge to transfer data. Instead I use Internet Explorer and "drag and drop" files.

The transfer works for a while (the duration seems to vary) then it stops. At the same time the window where the camera files are listed closes. If I click twice on the "Computer" icon I can see the D800 shown as a storage device. But when I try to "explore" the folder nothing is there. The files have not disappeared though: turning the camera on and off makes the files available again.

It's not an issue with Adobe Bridge. It seems to be a bug with the camera firmware.

For those who are going to ask: I have a card reader but it uses a USB2 port. I don't want to buy a USB3 card reader when I got one inside the D800e which should work just fine. And the transfer (until the camera stops the transfer) is way faster than USB2.

Those who claims that "there has been many instances where downloading files directly from the camera introduces errors" have never tried. It should work just fine as long as there is enough battery power.
