Tips for using the adjustment brush around hair?

Jun 19, 2012 6:36 AM

Hi everyone.  Any tips for using the adjustment brush around hair?  I was trying to change the background color of a portrait to pure white (to make the image look like a stock photo).  I use the adjustment brush, painted the background, then maxed out the exposure of the painted area.  It worked great.  The only problem is, it painted over the fine hair strands and the headshot lost detail.  Any idea how to efficiently capture every strand of hair?  Photoshop allows you to cut out an image pixel for pixel correct?  How does one get the same effect in Lightroom?

TIA.

You can't in Lr. If you need to work on fine detail as in your example you have to use Photoshop.

The only way to accomplish this in Lr would be to work with a very small AdjBrush at a 1:1 view and erase where you painted over the hair.

Not something I would look forward to doing.

Yeah this seems like a basic function which should be available.  WTF Adobe?

Lightroom isn't designed to replace Photoshop.  It's a different tool for a different job.  There are still some things that Photoshop does better - and this kind of background replacement is one of them.
