I've been trying to find the solution to this for days. Does anyone have a work around and is this a known bug.
I created in InDesign an index of thumbnails that are converted to buttons that go to named bookmarks (pages). There are also buttons to navigate back to page 1 and to go forward or backwards. So far so good.
When exported as 'interactive PDF' the buttons are active on page one but then disappear on most – but not all – pages.
This happens on Acrobat Pro and Reader 10.1.3 for Mac as well as on PC
Another but less serious problem is that the PDF requires the user to 'fill a form' although no forms have been created. This can be resolved by applying 'not modifiable' security on the document.
I have made a simple document with no images that replicates the same problem. If anyone is interested I'll post a link.
Thanks for the reply.
Yes, in InDesign CS6 export PDF in seperated between 'Print' and 'Interactive'. The options available in 'interactive' are 'forms and media' or 'appearance only'. I selected the first.
Here is a test file I created which has the same problem'.
Thanks. Your link to a discussion doesn't seem to work. Yes, I suspected it must a bug. I'm in touch with Adobe who say:
Thank you for contacting Adobe Technical Support.
I understand that buttons are missing in PDF file which are converted from InDesign.
The issue seems like the buttons are corrupted while converting to PDF.
Please try recreating the button and check if it helps.
I request you to contact us back via Live Chat using the below link so that we can check and help you further.
Strange that they don't seem to have any knowledge of the problem if this is a known bug in CS6. This is not a minor bug, it makes the whole bookmark/button function of InDesign useless!
Thanks again for you help.
Thanks. Same conclusion I came to.
I have found a work-around but its not pretty.
Save document to .idml
Open in CS4
Export as PDF
I tried CS5.5 but it creates a new problem, it moves things around!
Lesson learned: do NOT trash you previous versions of CS, you can run multiple versions and come back when you hit a bug.
I hope this can help someone.
