I am a non-professional user and make my movies on a Win 7 Desktop with an I7 processor and 4 drives.
My box has plenty of grunt.
I am considering buying a laptop to edit footage I shoot when I am travellling and am away from home.
I'm wondering whether other users use laptops and if so, what specs and how set up?
How does PP cope with 5400 rpm drives and only one or maybe two of them? Do you only edit and not transcode?
Any input will be welcome. Thanks
Go to Benchmark Results and from the horizontal panels select Computer type and select Laptops. Currently there are 57 laptop systems in the list, all with at least 2 disks. The disk speed is indicated both for the OS disk and the project disk. Notice that the fastest laptop is around three times slower than a fast desktop, but the worst laptop is nearly 70 times slower. Laptops are compromises.
I have a Dell Precision M6600 mobile workstation with 18Gb ram and G-raid external drive for my location editing.
I edit XDCAM EX in PP CS6 and composite in After Effects.
I cannot fault it - except its weight ;-(
