Hi guys,
I have a plugin based off the BasicPlugin example (also tried with ExternalWindow) which is building and being moved to the plug_ins directory.
From what I can tell it should be adding a menu called "Acrobat SDK" with a submenu item "Basic Plugin" which when pressed tells you the count on the pages for the document, however when I start Adobe Reader (X) it does not load.
It is not signed, and my preferences are set to load unsigned (I have un-checked "Use only certified plug-ins").
Everything else my installation is pretty much default. I am running Win 7, compiling with VS2010.
I have read an awful lot of posts but am none the wiser.
I am sure this is something basic in the extreme - can anyone get me off the starting block?
Thanks,
Dom
You need Adobe ACROBAT – not Reader for your development.
Acrobat will load ALL plugins, but Reader will only load plugins that have been granted a license from Adobe. If you are planning to build a plugin for Reader, then you’ll need to start the license process – details are in the SDK.
Thanks for the quick reply.
Is that just for development, or for all users? I can get a licence of acrobat for myself but not for all the users.
Can you tell me where in the SDK I may find details on the license application? I can't see any relevant docs within Plugin support and the PDFs in the "Documentation" folder only reference the word license when outlining the user license for using the SDK itself?
I assume I have to send something to Adobe and get certified or something? It is purely for internal use; self certification is fine if that is an option.
Thanks very much for your info,
Dom
If your plan is to build a plugin for Reader, then only you need a copy of Acrobat.
The license from Adobe is a combination certification and also payment for the rights to develop for Reader. Details are in the Documentation folder about Reader Enabling. Or do a web search for RIKLA (Reader Integration Key License Agreement).
Hi Irosenth,
Thanks very much for that; I'm still struggling to find anything relevant in the Documents folder of the SDK; there is really just one file called "pdf_reference.pdf" which contains three documents (Adobe_Supplement, etc) - none of them have any information on reader enabling and hardly anything on plugins (doing a search for "plug" only gets 10 results).
That RIKLA says the price for the licence is $50,000 PA? Bearing in mind this is for internal use only, is that cost realistic?
I've looked at examples of reader enabling online through Acrobat but that doesn't look like it would enable the plugin for everyone - just for that instance of Acrobat - can you clarify that if I had one licence of Acrobat, I would be able to develop a plugin which can be deployed to any number of users who only have Reader? Would I still need this RIKLA?
Thanks,
Dom
Hi Irosenth,
We would like to develop a plugin which can process geodata on pdf. But we am not sure about fee and license. I see that with DRM license we have to pay 50K. But I want to clarify some things.
1. I want to build internal plugin only for my company using and without selling, what fee for this case?
2. I want to build internal plugin only my company using and without selling, and use NON-DRM. What fee for this case ? In case using this license, Can I know what limitations?
3. The plugin will be free for every body, what license do we need and fee here?
Please provide us a full document for these cases.
Thank for your job and have a nice day.
