    Welcome to our community

This isn't really a Captivate question. It's a basic computer usage question.

Generally speaking, you will need to determine what the file name and location of the SWF presentation is. (Assuming, of course, that whoever created it published it as a SWF. After all, it could also be a video that you watch on YouTube.)

If it's a SWF, there is often an associated HTML page as well as a JavaScript .JS file you would need. If you aren't familiar with copying files like this from the web, you have a bit of a difficult road ahead. As you see, there is no pat answer here.

My question is not about copying and saving file. I am sorry that after being "community professional" and posting so many replies you did not get my question. Anyway, thanx but this is not what I am looking for.

Hmmm, sounds like you feel I'm misunderstanding exactly what you want to accomplish. I'm unsure how to interpret your question another way.

How to save to my computer an adobe captivate presentation from internet?

I took that to mean you see Captivate presentations on the internet and you wish to save them to your computer. If that's not what you are trying to do, please advise.

By the way, "Community Professional" is simply an honorary recognition by Adobe for providing lots of free help to other users over the years. It does not mean I'm compensated by Adobe.

    Cheers... Rick

two posts and already with the insults?  Not really a way to encourage others to assist you.

Rick answered the question you (poorly) asked.  If his answer wasn't what you wanted it's because your question wasn't clear.  Maybe try clarifying your question instead of attacking someone trying to help you.

So I'll bite, what exactly are you asking?  Do you want a website(s) with examples of captivate presentations to get ideas?  Do you want cptx files so you can see how people do things in captivate?  Or do you want to know how you can save someone's published project so you can view it later without having to be online?  If you have an example of something you're trying to save that might help.

I have what I believet to be the same problem/question.  I go to a vendor website and there are scads of Captivate presentations.  I would like to store these locally, i.e. on my hard drive, and be able to watch them without connecting to the vendor website, e.g. when I am out of range of an Internet connection.

I can View Source and see that the HTML is very simple and doesn't contain anything that I recognize as JavaScript (no .js filespecs or URLs, no <script> tags (or whatever it is; I'm not a web developer).  I can download the .swf file but when I try to play it either with the Standalone Shockwave Player (see second answer at http://http://superuser.com/questions/106258/how-to-play-swf-files-wit hout-browser ) or with e.g. Open File in Firefox, all I get is the framework of the player itself -- no content, zero play/run time.

If I place a link to the vendor's .swf file in a small HTML page of my own creation, and click the link, the .swf plays fine, notably without the vendor's HTML around it -- but apparently works only because I'm still accessing it online rather than locally.

How can I download these .swfs in such a way that a local copy will play properly?  Is it possible at all?

The SWF you have downloaded and tried to play is probably the SKIN inside which the actual course content SWF plays. If the Captivate output files were set up so that the Skin was externalised, that's what the HTM code would be referring to.  Rest assured that somewhere lurking in the background there will DEFINITELy be a JS file as well.

The issue here is that for online Captivate content to work properly there will be several files required.  What you want is to download ONE file and play it locally.  Captivate does have this as an output option (either PDF or EXE output) but that's not what this site offers because they're catering to online viewers.  When you play the content you will be downloading the content SWF to your browser's TEMP cache somewhere.  If you know where to look, you might still be able to dig out the content SWF from there.  But if the original content was set up to require the SKIN for navigation, you might find that even trying to open and play the actual content SWF is still going to be a bit frustrating for you.

Thanks for the clarification.  I thought it was probably something like that.  Looks like it's going to be more trouble than it's worth.  Maybe I can ask the vendor to send me copies.
