affordable ways to buy Indesign?

Jun 18, 2012 6:50 PM

I've been using ID for years at several jobs I've had and I want to finally buy it for myself. Is there any real affordable way of buying my own copy? I'm not a student of any kind so student discounts are not really a possibility

Take a look at Creative Cloud.

And don't be fooled by offers of a perpetual license at a steep discount. Legitimate resellers don't cut the price by much, but the web is full of counterfiets and people trying to sell educational licenses (not transferable) or older versions in their upgrade chain (upgrades and the versions from which they are upgraded must be transferred together), and any license transfer requires a transfer form from the seller. While it is possible to find a private seller with a legitimate license sale on the auction sites, it's rare.

A single license from Adobe is for one user. That user may install and use the software on two differnt machines, but not at the same time.

Using both machines with one license would be a violation of the license.

I don't beleive there are any discounts on volume until you get more than 10 licenses. You can buy a volume license for as few as 1, though, or at least that used to be the case.

Consider taking a class at a Community College and using the student discount there.

I don’t think one class is going to do it.

Yes, there is a process involving a form you download from Adobe (I have first-hand experience with this process). Both the seller and the buyer have to complete and sign it. That pretty much limits you to dealing face to face, not on eBay, for example. Sad, but once somebody has your money, their enthusiasm for following through with transfer help is likely to disappear.

The seller MUST fill out a form transferring the license to you and submit it to Adobe.

Unless that person is willing to do so as a condition of the sale, stay away!
