croping/trimming layer

Jun 21, 2012 1:31 AM

I wan to trim/crop a layer which falls out of the canvas.

From I search I did it turns out that by sellecting all and the crop will do the job, but in my case it does not and

I do not understand why.

Here is an imagr to see what I am talking about.

Is the Layer a Smart Object?

If Select > Select All and Image > Crop doesn’t work out inexplicably work-arounds might be:

    • select all, add a Layer Mask, delete Layer Mask and hit Apply in the dialog

    • select all, Layer > New > Layer Via Copy and delete the original Layer

If it's a Type layer then it will not be trimmed by Crop or Apply Layer Mask, but you could drag it's right edge handle to the left if you don't want it to stick out of the document.

A Type Layer would have to be created with the Type Tool.

Could you post  screenshot with the Layers Panel visible?

I think that what you have is a text layer. The layer should look like this in your Layers panel if it is:

    TEXT.jpg

When you crop your image, the text bounding box doesn't crop (see below). You should just be able to drag the bounding box (the dashed line) back into the boundaries of your image.

EDIT: Same thing happens with Shape Layers.

You could rasterize the Layer for example by grouoing ot and then flattening the Group (command-G, command-E), then it will finally be a pixel layer and cropping will affect it.

I'm not certain of what you want, but Merge Shape Components will remove the ellipse, leaving the rectangle with a curved edge.

I just scanned this whole thread and didn't see a mention of this setting in the Crop Tool.  Just mentioning it on the chance that it might have bearing on the issue.
