Cut and Paste to Existing Layer (CS4)

Is there a way to cut pixels from one layer and paste them to a selected layer (as opposed to pasting the pixels to a new layer which is created by PhotoShop)?  Also, is there an easy way to make sure that the pasted pixels remain in their original position with respect to the overall canvas?  I'm simply trying to move pixels from one layer to another layer while maintaining the position of the original pixels.

Thanks,  Mike H.

I know it's not exactly what you're asking for, but Control V (paste) followed by Control E (merge down) works.

Using the Duplicate Layer function in the Layers panel, and specifying the document you want to paste into will maintain position, if memory serves.

Maybe not quite a million.    And for all my experience, I still learn something new every day about Photoshop, so I wouldn't bet there's no direct way for you to do what you want.  I just do what I listed above out of long years of practice.

Assuming you're copying from / pasting into the same document, if your selection from which you copied is still made, Edit - Paste should align the pixels with their source locations.
