ID CS5.5 IDML file and missing plug-ins...need help

I'm currently running ID CS5.5 and trying to open a CS5 file, ( I think). However, even after converting it to a IDML file extension it just hangs and forces me to shut down. The whole purpose of this is there are several plug-ins including InBooklet SE that I no longer have access to. I'm unable to find the other plugins as well but need to be able to work in this file as the original creator. Any help or suggestions?

    You can't convert to .idml by changing the file extension. You must export the file from the oringal version as a .idml file.

     

    That said, you can use jongware's script to identify the version of the file, even if it won't open: Adobe Forums: [Ann] Identify Your InDesign File

     

    That said, InBooklet SE was part of InDesign CS3, but I see it listed inthe plugins used. I also see a number of what look like third-party plugins listed, and that may be the problem. What's happening when you try to open the file?

    Thanks for your quick response. I’m sorry I didn’t explain correctly – Yes, I exported the original file as an IDML file.

     

    Yes there are a number of third party plug-ins – when I open the original file, it opens correctly, however, I’m unable to work in it as it seems as those plug-ins play a big part in it. When I open the IDML file, it hangs up and stops working.

    On another note – is there an easy way to find these plug-ins? I’ve Googled and only been able to come up with one or two.

    Melanie,

     

    When replying by email, please remove your personal information. All responses are posted on the website.

     

    If the third-party plugins are essential to the file (and it sounds like they are -- the .idml export should have removed any non-essential plugin info), there's probably no way to get the file to work without them. Do you get a missing plugin warning when you try to open the .idml?

    You don’t need them. It’s an alert.

     

     

     

    It’s from opening files in new versions that don’t have them. The IDML route is the only way to strip that info out.

    When I try and open the IDML, it never fully opens, gets to about 95% complete then freezes up and forces shutdown.

    Are you on Mac? Do you get a crash report? Post it on Pastebin.com and put a link here.
