Illustrator 6 not printing elements

I received a native Illustrator 6 file with multiple artboards from a customer. After printing the job to my postscript & laser printers to preflight, I noticed the background did not print.

All artwork was vector and selectable, only a few layers, it was a multiple page document.

I check the layers. all were set to print and was not on template.

checked the print diaglog box to print all layers and visible

artwork was not hidden or locked - nothing to do with printing or not

nothing in attributes was found and has to do with printing or not

I'm not sure how to fix this other than saving the file as a previous version of Illustrator (5 or 4) which was able to print just fine.

Can anyone explain what the artist did and how to eliminate the problem in Illustrator CS6?

Thanks,

Kourtney

What kind of objects are those which fail to print?

Not helpful. I asked what kind of objects. (Paths, raster images, type, effects).

Turn on Overprint Preview and see if any of the affected objects disappear.
