How to turn off OCR

I receive and use large drawings in PDF format.  The recent upgrade now automatically attempts to convert the large files into text edtable documents which shut down the whole system.  How do I permenantly disable the future on all documents opened?

    OCR doesn't automatically start when you open a PDF, only if you sent this preference for image-types files like TIFF. What I think you've run into is the Accessibility tool to read a document out loud -- this tool will perform OCR on the document text so it can be read out loud. Try turning off any assistive technology you might have on your system. If this doesn't work, you might try the suggestion in this discussion "Reading Untagged Document" but... I don't have a screen reader.
