Reader on Kindle Fire says I need to connect to the internet?

Hello,

   I am stationed in Afghanistan and really have no way of using wifi.  Recently, my Kindle Fire has been saying I need to connect to the internet, and shuts down when I click "ok."  It worked last night, and now the same thing is coming up again.  How can I circumvent this without internet?
