I tried with a very short project and this is not a problem with my project. What exactlry are you doing?

Where did you see that the menus are being encoded in MPEG-2 and not in H.264?

I see in BDedit, BDFix, tsMuxerGUI, TotalMedia Theatre 5, and on my PS3. When I first got CS6, Encore encoded menus in H.264 but it gave me errors trying to edit the BDMV in BDedit so I unstalled it then I started to use Encore CS5, but my main HHD crashed so I have to re-install W7, then when I heard that there was an update for CS6 so I decided that I was going to install Encore as well.

I am sorry but I didn't get what you said. You said that Encore CS6 gave you the menus encoded in H264 but BDEdit said that it was MPEG-2.

Then you used CS5. (This had this bug of encoding the menus in MPEG-2 always irrespective ot the project settings.) If this is the problem that you are seeing with CS5, then this is a bug is CS5 that has been fixed in CS6.

Any update to CS6 should not have effect on this behavior because I am trying with the update only. This should work in CS6.

No, CS6 is now giving menus encoded in mpeg 2.

When I first used Encore CS6 (about a week after it was released), it gave me H.264 menus, which I was happy because that was one of big problems with CS5, but for some reason the blu-rays that CS6 were producing were giving me problems in BDedit with editing mpls files & button commands.

That was the reason why I went back to Encore CS5 because I know how to get around that bug CS5 had for menus.

Now, since my PC crashed and I had to re-install Windows 7, I heard that there was an update for Encore CS6 I decided that I was going to install Encore as well. With the update the blu-rays that CS6 produce are not giving anymore problems with editing mpls files & button commands in BDedit but its producing mpeg 2 menus.

Well, that sounds strange to me as I am also on the Encore Update (6.0.1.013).

Could you post the screen shot of your project settings and the folder where you see that the file is MPEG-2?

Also Encore 6.0.1.013

Did a quick test.

Simple BD project, blank Hd menu, added a placeholder background, added one button, used the library Crib m2v (which is mpeg2) and added as motion background, duplicated the menu and linked the button to the other menu.

I used my default (1080p 29.97 30Mbps max) and then your settings (1080p 23.976 15Mbps).

Using Mediainfo and BDEdit, all the streams are H264.

@Stan, as you see with my pictures, then menu is coming out in MPEG-2.

Question your 1080p 29.97 @ 30Mbps, does it come out in interlaced or progressive?

Yes, interlaced (of course)!

Well, the problem should be repeatable, and I always allow for operator error (you're looking at the wrong files, for example).

Try my experiment and confirm you get the mpeg2. What is different (from my experiment) that you are doing? For example, I added background motion rather than some other way of forcing a render.

Ok I did what you said Stan and I found out that if the menu is not a motion menu (with a video or audio track) i.e. a static menu, Encore CS6 will encoded in MPEG-2 but if its a motion menu Encore CS6 will encode it in H.264. I guess Adobe didn't solve the whole bug for menu encoding.

Edit: for stills, I also get MPEG2 (in an m2ts file, which shows a general format of BDAV).

Not me! Waiting for Ramesh to tell us; or to confirm that its a bug. Or perhaps that it is a moot issue: mediainfo only gave a max datarate (of 40) for this "still." Is there a quality difference between the mpeg2 and the h.264?

Yes but not by much but the compression is way better in H.264, one of my menus I made in Encore CS5, a while back, was 360 MB in MPEG-2 than it went to 170 MB in H.264 when I did the work around. Plus I know that some older blu-ray players can't play blu-rays with 2 different types of video codec.

And for some reason I can't use BDFix to switch out the videos, I believe its because its a static menu.

This seems to be a missed bug. The fixed thing applies for motion menus only. I think static menus are missed. Right now, I can not think of a workaround for this issue. Stan has already filed a bug report.
