C++ Runtime error  PSE 9

Jun 21, 2012 2:15 PM

When I start PSE 9 organizer I get an error message: This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way...  I reinstalled PSE 9 but got the same message.

This is usually a Windows system fault and the error log is the first place to look.

Start Button à Control Panel à Administrative Tools à Event Viewer.

In the left panel highlight Application (under Windows Logs) and look for errors logs with the red exclamation mark.

If you see anything relating to Adobe copy and paste the information from the details tab.

These errors can be caused by a variety of faults e.g. a corrupt dll file. The log should help to pinpoint the problem.

Look for the new entries having the red icon and that refer to Photoshop Elements.  Copy the error text into a message here.

I find it interesting that I suddenly started getting the same runtime error when I try to open Elements 9 or Premeir on June 21. I went back though my events log and the error message is

    Event Source:Application Error
    Event Category:None
    Event ID:1000
    Date:6/21/2012

Thanks for posting the info.  Have you tried these Adobe suggestions?  Even though this document is for the Creative Suite products, Solution #2 would be appropriate for PSE9, and should allow you to install the 9.0.3 update:

Thanks to Ken! I tried Solution #2 and the Editor opened without the error message. Yay!

Unless there's something in the Event log referring to Photoshop Elements, or Adobe, there's not a lot to suggest.

Did it ever work without that error?  If so, what changes did you make to the system or in Organizer just before it started getting the error?

At this point, you've got nothing to lose by trying.

Update-I started getting the Runtime error again. The fix we discussed worked again so I made a just made shortcut to the PDapp.exe file for my desk top.

    docterv,

Hmmm...the patch should only need to be applied once.  There might be some corruption in your user account.  Try creating a new one and see if running under that account fixes things for good.

I've created a new account and will report back if I get the error message again. Thanks!

Fired up a new adobe account with a different email account and the error returned the next time I opened the Editor. It seems that the only way to get it to open without the error is to use the PDapp.exe file before attempting to open PS.

    Weird.

I was referring to a new user account in Windows  -- that's where the corruption might be.  Sorry about the confusion.

    Added:

I just realized that you should first log out of your Adobe account, then exit PSE, then use Task Manager to kill any running Adobe processes before applying the patch.
