After saving a CS6 AI document as CS5 version, and open it with CS6 again, effect like dropshadow has been expanded, and no more editable. Anyone else can test this?
You know, using Illustrator CS5 save document as CS4 version is just OK. ![]()
(PC 32bit CS6)
Thanks tomaxxi for the answer.
But open a CS5 version ai file with CS6 which already has drop shadow effect object in it, and save as a new CS5 file doesn't have this problem, strange.
Edited:
Maybe adobe should make it more clear to users by name it "legacy drop shadow", like they do with "legacy Gauss blur", when opening legacy ai file with CS6.
Hi All,
I have found method to open CS6 version file with Illustrator CS5, and the drop shadow effect is live!
Live raster effect is rendering when file has been opened, right? So I think nothing should be changed to object with drop shadow effect when downsave to legacy ai file with CS6. Record the data as is will be just OK.
From now on I will save all file as CS6 version, when I need to open it with CS5, I can just use my hack method. ![]()
1. Uncheck "Use Compression" when save your document;
2. Open the file with a text editor, search "RoundtripVersion" and change the following number from 16 to 15;
3. Search "%AI5_FileFormat" (will found twice) and change the following number from 12.0 to 11.0;
4. Save and close the file.
Now it's ready for CS5 to open.
That's say you have some file saved with Illustrator CS5 as CS5 version, now you use CS6 to open and edit it and finally press "Ctrl+S" as usual to save, then the problem with original post begin.
To Scott,
Not fully tested by if you know what you are doing and be careful, then the method is "trouble-free" indeed. Anyway, I do not recommend others use it, I just want to point out the possibility.
