Illustrator CS6 downsave Problem: dropshadow effect been expanded

After saving a CS6 AI document as CS5 version, and open it with CS6 again, effect like dropshadow has been expanded, and no more editable. Anyone else can test this?

You know, using Illustrator CS5 save document as CS4 version is just OK.

(PC 32bit CS6)

This is expected behavior. Gaussian blur, the key part of drop shadow, was re-written for CS6, therefore, not backwards compatible.

    Hope that helps.

It will be at the top of the second window that opens in the Save path (Illustrator Options; dropdown at the top).

What is the hack method that you're using?

Have you tested that with a RIP or any output?

All that does is change the version identifier. There are MANY other differences between a CS6 and a CS5 file. I highly doubt your method will be trouble-free when it comes to reproduction.

I have to ask you why on earth woud you save down to AI CS5 from Ai CS6 so t6hat you can open the AI CS5 version in AI CS6?

Not being sarcastic or insulting but it does sound a little insane to me!

    Please enlighten!

Where is this "second window"? When I go to Save with a new doc it goes to Save As which has no "options" panel. I've looked everywhere else I could think for this window but can't find it. Appreciate any help you can give.

I have 2 reasons to do that...

First, sometimes you have to share your files with other people that have earlier versions of CS.

Second, I upload files to a stock site, where we have to save them as CS10 or CS8.

    ...are those good enough reasons?

    Wade, and others:

I work in publishing where clients usually update their software every 4 years at best. It's expensive in cost and training to maintain the current versions of Illustrator and inDesign.
