Mask overlay stuck and brush turns blocky

This is something that we’ve seen intermittently on our and others' Macs:

 

  1. you hover over the pin of an active brush and the overlay appears.
  2. you move off the pin, but the overlay stays.
  3. when you now continue to brush, the overlay is erased in shrap edged, blocky strokes as if the brush was a square shape with no feathering.

 

From all I can remember, it seems to be triggered only by larger brush sizes. Toggling the brushes panel or the overlay usually clears it up. It seems to be purely a display glitch not affecting the actual brush.

 

We’ve seen this happening in LR3, so it’s not new. I can’t comment on Win.

 

Has anyone else come across this?

    Occasionally.  A relaunch of LR usually makes it disappear.

    A relaunch is a bit more inconvenient. What platform are you on?

    I use Mac and Two Versions of Windows. I use LR about 4 hours daily and maybe see this once a month or so.

    I see this very infrequently too, Martin.  Restarting LR clears it up, so while annoying, I've never gone to the trouble of researching it.  Not helpful I know, but you're not the only one.

    This happens occasionally to me, and it's quite disappointing as it makes it difficult to use the brush, after all a very important tool in LR Develop Mode.  Small or large brush, no difference. 

    Seems to be prevailing in extremely saturated areas, ex. a flower with very red leafs = there's the problem, but no problem in the more modest green stem of the plant.

    Have not been able to find a solution...
