I just downloaded PS CS6 and LR 4 to both my desktop and laptop. From LR, I use control + E to push the raw image over the PS CS6 and it works on my laptop but *not* on my desktop. I have LR 4.1 and also camera raw 7.1 on both my laptop and desktop so I'm updated.
For some reason on my laptop I'm able to successfully use control + E to push the raw image to CS6 and it opens sucessfully but *not* on my desktop. When I do this on my desktop it just opens PS CS6 but that's it. The raw image never appears.
I've made sure that the LR 4 preferences setttings are the same on both my laptop and desktop. I've even rebooted. I've googled everything I know and still no luck. Any other suggestions? Thank you for any help!!
It seems you may have already checked this, but in the interest of being thorough...
Have you checked in Preferences, External Editing to be sure it reads, "Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS6"?
Yes, thank you for pointing that out though. LR 4 kept saying that it's already chosen PS CS6 as the external editor but I still went ahead and chose it anyway when I was comparing settings. I appreciate it.
Until someone more familiar with this particular issue jumps in to help out...
Even though the setting reads correct in in the preferences pane, I'm still suspicious that something behind the scenes is broken about that relationship. Did you at one time have Photoshop CS6 beta installed? Is there any other reason (installing/uninstalling, etc) that could explain a broken link to PS6?
I'm tempted to ask you reinstall LR4.1 to try to get it to rebuild the link. It would be pretty painless, and it wouldn't break any of your existing images or catalogs.
If you feel like tinkering instead, one way to test might be to manually add PS6 again as the "Additional External Editor" in the lower half of the same preferences window. Click the "choose" button and delve down to the executable PS6 file. See if using this second linking magically starts to work for you.
Hmmm, that's a good point. I may have had a beta version (not of CS6 though) a long time ago (can't recall for sure) but have since used a licensed version of CS4 extended for several years before installing CS6 extended. I may have downloaded a beta of CS4 a long time ago?? I've also have PS Elements trial version installed several years ago (before CS4) as well so that could be causing a break in the link? The thing is that I've been using LR2 and CS4 successfully for several years now and no issues when I used control + E.
I did what you recommended and re-chose CS6 as my external editor but still no luck. It's being really stubborn. I *am* glad to know that it works on my laptop just fine from LR4 to CS6 so you are most probably correct that there is something behind the scenes going on.
Hmm. In your shoes I would try uninstalling then reinstalling LR4.1. I'm using LR4/CS6 combo too, and it's working fine for me as it is for you on your laptop. Just download the trial version, then when you put your license key in it becomes the full version. Let us know how it goes.
Just got off the phone with Adobe LR 4 and they helped me reset my preferences and it works. They had me go into my library (mac) and pull out two specific files: Adobe Photoshop CS6 settings and com.adobe.lightroom4.plist. I dragged both of those to the desktop then re-opened LR4 and once I did so, it worked once I used control + e. Thanks again for your help! Problem solved.
