What format and camera?

I have a desktop PC that I built which has the following:

Intel GT-R Extreme Core I-7 4.4 Ghz

Crucial M4 256 SATA III SSD Main Drive with WD VelociRaptor WD4500 10,000 RPM HDD

850W power supply

MSI R5770 Hawk Radeon 1Gb 129-bit GDDR5 PCI express video card

6Gb DDR3 SDRAM 1600 PC312800 RAM

ASUS P6T SE LGA1366 Intel X58 ATX Mobo

 

I currently have a very old but reliable Panasonic DV800 camcorder and I need to get a newer one.  I am currently using Adobe Master Suite CS4 but I will be upgrading to CS5 or 6 this fall.  I would like to get a good camera to replace my old one that shoots in some kind of a HD format or something that at least looks better than the old camera.

 

My price ceiling is about $500.  I like the looks of the Sony HDR-CX260V or even the older model but I am wondering if the AVCHD format will give me headaches with my PC set up.  I do like to do After Affects and other slightly more than standard video editing in my videos but nothing on a professional level. 

 

Any suggestions for a good camera?  I do not have a problem buying a slightly older model if needed.

    Your display card is a bit of a problem to run CS5 to CS6 you will be able to use the ME in CS5 to CS6 and you Ram is a bit low side should go up a min to 8gigs. Good camera chioce for the price you want to spend but the LCD touch screen focus and light setting is not always accurate and working out side in the bright  sun light makes it even more diffical to set the correct settings   , Panasonic has just released a similar model in a similar price range.

    What video card should I switch to?  I can easily increase my RAM, in fact I was planning on it later, which is now, when I could afford more like 12 Gb.

    I would say get more ram as it is cheapter than a new display card and Adobe Ppro so loves it  and with the Ppro CS6, Global Cach, once you have rendered out the only rendering you need is the area that was changed or worked on, also you can set the playback resolusion in PproCS6 . As for Display cards you can buy a older GTX290 second hand  or GTX 460 up ward,  GTX560 ti upwards or even GTX640 and upward  There are many deals on Newegg even Ebay. This all depends on your budget.

    The computer I built just over 2 years ago is now "aging and slow" compared to today's hardware - http://forums.adobe.com/thread/652694

     

    But, I edit home hobbyist AVCHD very easily, using CS5

     

    Twice your ram, 3 drives (all at 7200rpm) and an nVidia card for hardware MPE work well for me
