You should reset it in your prefs, as well, so you don't need to do it on a doc by doc basis in future.

The default for new documents is "Typical", and (rather untypically) you cannot change it to "High"-with-no-documents-open (the trick that works for just about every other setting).

But you can change the default, as Peter says, in Preferences -> Display Performance. The top item is "Default View".

i've done this setting. but i have to manually set for each image i import. . i have to change from "use view setting" to high quality display everytime separately inspite of the setting in preferences .

Go back to the prefs and verify that you really chose High Quality Dislay, that the slers in the section below are all the way to the right, and uncheck the Preserve Object Level Settings box.
