Is there any real risk of causing problems with the LR database by using this?

It's a reasonable question to ask. The Any File plugin uses the standard SDK provided by Adobe and doesn't do anything out of the ordinary compared to other plugins. At least one other plugin, Video Asset Management, uses the same method for importing files into a catalog; Any File has been released for 1.5 years, VAM for much longer. I haven't received any reports of catalog damage, nor have I seen reports for similar plugins.
