LR4 catalog update

I upgraded to LR 4.1 the day it was released. I have used it daily since that time. Yesterday, when I started LR it stated I needed to update my catalog. I tried to ignore but it insisted I upgrade the catalog.

 

Well, 3 hours later and having to import my entire photo folder again, it now works.

 

Has anyone else been required to update their catalog,, I thought this should be done automatically with any update if required.

 

ps I lost my plugins

    I am guessing you may have renamed, or moved your LR Catalog without LR's knowledge? Is it on an external drive?  Did the drive letter change? (Windows)

     

    When LR cannot find your catalog it can pick up another catalog by default and that might be your old catalog.

    The location of the catalog is on my C: drive and the location has never changed.

     

    My photos are on my external hard drive and have never changed. None of the photos have have been shown as missing.

    You probably want to search your C: drive for *.LRCAT, one of them is probably your existing catalog.

    I have several *.LRCAT (1,2&3).

     

    Not sure why it wanted to create LRCAT3.

     

    On the positive side, the Develop control are a lot more responsive and the Adj Brush and Grad Filter are  whole lot better.

     

    I guess I'll never know why it forced me to update my catalog.

    Often this happens because the user accidentally does something, as Rikk Flohr said. That's why. Can you find the appropriate catalog among the *.LRCAT that you found? Has it been renamed or moved, or the folder it is in renamed or moved?

    I found my LRCAT2 catalog and imported the updated os from LRCAT3.

     

    Why are the Adj Brush and Grad Filter so much slower in my old LRCAT2 catalog?

     

    The LRCAT3 file is really exceptionally responsive and fast. The only negative of goling to this catalog is the keywords are messed up and not in alignment with LRCAT2.. By the way, I did an optimize on LRCAT2 and it did not improve the performance of Brush and Filter
