Has anyone gotten Hollywood FX Gold to work with Premiere Pro CS4 in Windows 7. I have it working perfectly with PPro CS4 in Windows XP, but in Windows 7 I just get an error message saying "Unable to start the LicenseTool program".
Do you have Win7 PRO so you may try Microsoft's Virtual XP module?

Going back several versions (years?), there was a set of instructions on what one had to do, to get Hollywood FX to run with PrPro. Certain file names had to be changed in Hollywood FX. Also, at some point with PrPro (CS4?), things ceased to work. I have looked for my bookmark, but have not found it yet. When I do, I will post, as there might be useful tips in it.
Good luck,
Hunt
This is from a very old PrPro 2.0 article, that has been gone from the Adobe Forums for sometime:

Effects Hollywood FX & Pro 2
wayne greensill - 11:31am Nov 4,2006 Pacific
Hi there
Can anyone help me with hollywood fx with pro2.
I have managed to install Hollywood fx with premiere pro2, I understand Pinnacle do not support Adobe anymore, so may not be compatiable.
The problem i have is the when i drop the effect to the timeline, and preview the effect i dont get the crossover from video 2 to video 1, i only get a black background, the next scene does not show.
I hope you can help me.
Regards
Wayne

Which version of HollywoodFX? My version 4.6.7 works without problems. Did not find it worthwhile to upgrade to a more recent version however.

Hi there
I am also using version 4.6.7(34)
Could it be something to do with the plugins as i had to copy a plugin from Hollywood Fx into Premiere Pro 2, to recognise it.
Thanks for the reply

Just make sure they are installed in the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0\Plug- ins\en_US directory and their extensions are renamed to .PRM. This applies to both the FL and

the FX file.

I cant remember off-hand what the original extensions were, but you must RENAME the files, not add .prm , you have to change the extension from whatever is was originally to PRM. Maybe you have to reset your plug-ins by pressing SHIFT+CTRL while starting PP.

Try updateing the driver in your video card. I had the same problem using videoFx and this corrected the problem.

have hollywood fx gold 4.57 and it has always worked for me. I did not have to rename the plugins at all as they already have the .prm file ext. i double checked this just now. Look in the pinnacle/hollywoodfxgold/hostplugins folder. Fx-5Hfx4GLD.prm

You are using the wrong plug-ins. The plug-ins to use with PPRO2 in Hollywood versions 4.6.1 and later are the plug-ins designed for Edition. They can be found in the Edition and
EditionFilter folders under C:\Program Files\Pinnacle\Hollywood FX 4.6\Host Plugins created when you install HollywoodFX. They are named respectively HfxEdt46.vfx and Fl-HfxEdt46.vfx. They should be copied to your PPRO “Pinnacle” plug-ins folder (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0\Plug-ins\en_US\Pinnacle) and their extension changed from “vfx” tp “prm. Remove any other plug-ins from that folder. In PPRO2 the 2 videos should be on the same track.
BTW the GOLD series of HollywoodFX was designed to work with Premiere which explains why Phil did not have to make any change.

I do not know if that will be of any help, or not.
Good luck,
