Suddenly, the program will not start. It doesn't get as far as the splash screen. Task Manager doesn't show it under programs, but the Processes window shows InDesign.exe *32 in the list. Nothing is visible elsewhere. The rest of my CS 3 suite works fine. I did a reinstall of just InDesign through the Windows 7 Programs and Features control panel, and it reported a successful repair, only to show the same symptom.
Should I un-install it first and then re-install? Or is there something else to try?
A good diagnostic tool is to create a new user account onthe computer and see if the problem persists in that account. If it does, the problem is in the application, if it goes away the problem is someplace in the user settings.
And you already tried trashing the prefs?
Honestly, I think think it might turn out to be easiest to reinstall. Run the uninstaller and select the option to remove the preferences and deactivate. Then download and run the clean tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3). I'd run MSconfig (system configuration utility) and turn off non-essential startup programs and services, especially anti-virus and malware scanners, reboot and reinstall, then run MSconfig again to restore normal startup.
Nonsense! CS3 and later were tested with and are compatible with Windows 7.
While contributions from all users are quite welcome here, please check your facts before posting. That's twice in the last five minutes you've posted totally incorrect information for someone seeking help.
