Can't underline or highlight single or just a couple of words.

In the editing facility, Adobe Reader will not let me highlight or underline just one or two words.  It will only allow highlighting or underlineing of whole text lines or text between punctuation marks.  The Getting Started demo will allow you to edit just one or two words, but the app itself will not.  What am I doing wrong?

    I have the same problem and would love to know the answer. I have been able to underline individual words in the past, so I'm not sure what changed......  It's very frustrating.
