CS4 to CS6 upgrade expiry

Jun 29, 2012 8:20 AM

I currently have PS CS4, and after using the CS6 trial, wish to upgrade to CS6. I understand that it is possible to upgrade CS4->CS6 by the end of the year. However, I'm unsure how this cutoff works. Will CS4->CS6 upgrades only be sold until the end of 2012, but install at any time after, or will the upgrade refuse to install from 2013 onwards, even if bought before the cutoff? Is there just one upgrade disk, or different ones for CS3/4 users and CS5 users?

I ask, because I intend upgrading to CS6 on my current PC this year, but next year want to buy a new PC. I therefore want to know if I will be able to reinstall the CS6 upgrade on my new PC in 2013, after first removing it from the old one.

This is strictly a sales policy which bears no influence on the technical side. The software will install after the end of year just as well. The installer is unified, the only difference is the serial numbers. That's why you must tell which "qualifying version" you have when you buy the product to get the correct serial number.

Also keep in mind that per the EULA you can activate the software on up to two computers simultaneously, so you don't strictly have to deactivate it from the old machine before activating it on the new one.

Thanks, I didn't realise that. That means that I could have installed it on both my desktop and laptop all these years...

Yes, that's the whole point of the one license for one user on two computers not to be used simultaneously policy.
